 Portuguese is a romance language that originated in Spain and Portugal. It is created around Latin spoken by the pre-Roman people. And used before  as the lingua franca in Sri Lanka for many years. Today, it is the language of about half of the population in South America. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, Portugal, Cape-Verde, Sao-Tome and Principe and Mozambique. Portuguese is an obligatory subject beginning 6th grade in Uruguay. It is also spoken by substantial immigrant communities in Australia, Switzerland, Venezuela, Japan, USA, and Canada.
